Danny Boyle’s Mumbai-based globally acclaimed film, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ won eight Oscar Awards including two for AR Rahman and one for Resul Pookutty. Earlier the Mumbai-shot movie bagged as many as 10 Academy Awards nominations. ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ deals with the story of a teen-aged tea boy named Jamal Malik who participates in a quiz show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ and emerges as a winner.
The role of protagonist, Jamal Malik is played by British-born Indian actor Dev Patel. Apart from him, the film features Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Freida Pinto. The film is based on Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup’s novel ‘Q & A’. British writer Simon Beaufoy has written the screenplay of the film. ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has been co-directed by India-based Loveleen Tandon, who was also the casting director for the film.
Earlier the film had won seven BAFTA and four Golden Globe awards. It had also bagged 14th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards which includes categories like best composer, best picture, best director, best writer and best young actor. The following is the list of Oscars won by ‘Slumdog Millionaire’:
